NatPower H completes hydrogen refueling of three boats competing in the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge 2024

NatPower H, the world’s leading developer for the production, storage and distribution of green hydrogen and part of the NatPower Group, announces the finalisation of the first hydrogen refueling during the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, a nautical event organised by the Yacht Club de Monaco and dedicated to alternative propulsion and hull design innovations. Making its debut at the eleventh edition of the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, NatPower H aims to accelerate the hydrogen transition in boating at an event featuring more than 50 zero-emission boats.

D-Day for the 46 teams entered in the three Classes at the 11th Monaco Energy Boat Challenge organised by the Yacht Club de Monaco. The first on-water confrontation in the bay of Monaco was dedicated to them with the traditional parade then the first sea trials followed by qualifying laps for the Championship that will take place on the last day. There’s no room for error in any of the categories: the Energy Class and its 18 protagonists, the Solar Class (13 boats) and Open Sea Class (15 boats).

Monaco Energy Boat Challenge contestants get straight to the heart of the matter

While the technical inspections continued in the paddocks (open to the public) the 450 competitors kicked-off the 11th Monaco Energy Boat Challenge on the water. Organised by Yacht Club de Monaco supported by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, UBS, BMW and SBM Offshore, the event saw over 700 students involved, of which 450 are here in the Principality to represent their projects.

Kick-off tomorrow for 11th Monaco Energy Boat Challenge

Over 450 engineering students representing 40 universities and 25 nations have made the trip to the Principality to present their prototypes and meet major players in the yachting industry at the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge. Since 2014 this event, which is part of the collective Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting approach, combines alternative propulsion and hull design to drive the future.

The 11th Monaco Energy Boat Challenge (https://energyboatchallenge.com/) is set to take place 1-6 July 2024 organised by Yacht Club de Monaco in partnership with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. The event brings key industry players together with young engineers to progress alternative propulsion and sustainability and attracts boats already on or about to enter the market and prototypes. YCM General Secretary Bernard d’Alessandri highlights the fact that “with all the research & development shared on open source together with challenges on the water, Tech Talks and a conference, this meeting supports the energy transition to build the future of yachting”.

The 50+ teams got down to business today with the first events of the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge. It was a packed day of sea trials, qualification heats and manoeuvrability tests. It was all about strategy for contestants in the Energy Class, Solar Class and Open Sea Class to score the most points while demonstrating their boats’ capabilities.

Off to a flying start

The 10th Monaco Energy Boat Challenge kicked off Wednesday 5th July with a visit by HSH Prince Albert II. The President of the Yacht Club de Monaco, accompanied by YCM Vice-Presidents Andrea and Pierre Casiraghi alongside General Secretary Bernard d’Alessandri stopped to examine the boats designed by young engineers before they test them out on the sea in the different events. “We have 46 teams from prestigious universities, but also companies.

Sustainability name of the game

For ten years now, the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge organised by Yacht Club de Monaco has been establishing itself as the big meeting for alternative energy sources honouring a long tradition. Supported by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, Credit Suisse, BMW and SBM Offshore, the event has attracted involvement by big name shipyards such as Oceanco, Ferretti, Sanlorenzo, Lürssen, Monaco Marine and Palumbo SY Refit.
