Launched in 2018 by the Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM), the challenge invites teams to design not only the cockpit but also the most efficient and durable propulsion system, using exclusively renewable alternative energy sources. To ensure a fair competition, all teams are provided with the same catamaran hull design by YCM. This standardization allows teams to focus their efforts on optimizing their propulsion system and cockpit design.
Participants must work within a strict energy constraint, with a maximum of 10 kWh stored on board. This limitation fosters innovation in clean technologies and energy management. Teams are required to devise technical solutions that maximize the energy efficiency of their propulsion system while also optimizing the cockpit design to meet performance demands and sustainability standards.
The challenge, in addition to driving research and development in the field of renewable marine energy, aims to promote the shift toward more environmentally friendly boating practices. By emphasizing sustainability and innovation, the YCM provides a platform where groundbreaking ideas can be tested, leading to significant advancements in the maritime industry.
