Set up to strengthen links between the yachting industry and the university teams competing, so experts in the sector can give the latter bespoke targeted advice on their projects and objectives. The Mentor ensures students get the best possible feedback on their boat, helping them to innovate even more and focus on the design.

JOINING THE MENTORING PROGRAM

Register your interest on the MEBC Corporate Mentoring Program Request

An initial discussion will help define which university will be able to best benefit from
your mentoring accompaniment

You will be introduced to your mentee Team in February to start the 5 month Mentoring Program.

Who can be a mentor

  • A member of the organisation holding technical knowledge to be able to assist teams in their project development.
  • The mentor should understand the rules of the challenge to be able to assist the team with their application & project. (Notice of Race & Technical Rule).
  • The mentor should have at least one of these areas of expertise/interest: ship design, ship building, energy efficiency, sustainability, R&D, new material, alternative propulsion system…

What are the ​ obligations

  • The mentor should meet (remotely or in person) at least once a month with the team it is assigned to
  • The mentor should assist the team in their goal to succeed in the challenge without judgement.
  • The mentor and mentee should agree on a mentoring planning & communication procedure
  • The mentee team should partake in the program with an open mind and should put its best effort to benefit from the professional advice.
  • The mentee team should not expect the mentor to do any work for them.
  • If the mentor or the team mentee should feel that at any time the mentoring program is not appropriately taking place it has to be referred in writing to energychallenge@ycm.org
  • A closure feedback questionnaire will be provided to both the mentor and mentee team to evaluate the experience & allow improvements to the mentoring program
