HAN SOLAR BOAT

HAN University of Applied Sciences

5 participations

Team

In February 2022, Young HAN Solarboat started with students from Liemers College. This season, students from Candea College form the Young HAN Solarboat team. The students build a small HAN solar boat and then take part in the Young Solar Challenge.

The team is made up of eight students: Gijs, Stijn, Evelien, Koen, Daan, Hidde, Marina and Mano.

project

The current HAN Solarboat is a solar-powered boat. Enthusiastic students from various courses and QConcepts professionals are working on this boat. They take part in national and international races with the HAN Solarboat. IIME provides the workshop facilities and professional support in the field;

From a simple idea to a committed, close-knit team. In just a few years, their team has grown from a handful of students to 94 people.

project

Their vision is to take the idea of electromobility from the automotive industry to marine transport. The origins of the project date back to 2015, when members of the eco-energy student research group and the academic sailing club decided to combine their passion for sailing with their knowledge of renewable energy sources and together build a solar-powered boat.

project

The SOLAR solar boat is a boat powered by the sun. It contains solar panels that generate electricity. This is then used to power its systems.

The SOLAR solar boat project began in the 2011/2012 academic year. With this project, students take part in the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge every year. To challenge themselves and their SOLAR solar boat, they sail from the Netherlands to the competition in Monaco.

TECNICO SOLAR BOAT

Institut Supérieur Technique

3 participations

Team

The team was created in 2015 by 8 Naval and Oceanic, as well as Mechanical Engineering students. In 2017 TSB competed for the first time in Monaco with its first solar prototype. In 2019 the group achieved its best result with an incredible second place in the Solar Class A. This year, the team will compete with its third solar powered boat (the same that competed last year), but with some improvements.

project

We are currently a unique project on the Iberian Peninsula. In July 2019, we took second place in the Solar A class at the Monaco Solar and Energy Boat Challenge.

Our latest addition, the SR 03, features a uniquely designed twin engine system and three autonomously controlled hydrofoils. It is designed for fast, fluid cruising on the high seas and in river environments.

SOLAR BOAT TWENTE

University of Applied Sciences Saxion in Enschede.

4 participations

Team

Solar Boat Twente is a student team, consisting of 21 motivated, multidisciplinary students from both the University of Twente as well as the University of Applied Sciences Saxion in Enschede.

project

This year, our main goal is to make our boat able to foil stably under any type of water conditions. By doing so, we want to win the best possible results in the races we participate in.

TU YILDIZ SOLAR BOAT

 Yildiz Technical University

1 participation

Team

The YILDIZ solar boat team is initially made up of a 7-strong project group from Yildiz Technical University.

project

The solar boat took part in the competition named DONG Energy Solar Challenge. In 2014, we competed against 40 international teams such as Bahrain, China, the USA, Brazil, Finland, Poland and Indonesia in the Netherlands.

SOUTHERN SOLAR

University of Louisiana at Lafayette

1 participation

Team

Southern Solar is a first-year team seeking to compete in the 2023 Monaco Energy Boat Challenge.

project

The goal of the project is to design and build a solar-powered boat to compete in the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge in July of 2023.

Swiss solar boat

École Polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne – EPFL

2 participations

Team

Founded in 2019, Swiss Solar Boat is made up in part of several students who took part in Hydrocontest, a competition dedicated to maritime energy efficiency, thus bringing together 6 years of experience. Over the years, the team has won several prizes, from the Innovation Award to victory in the lightweight category in September 2019. They are now looking to a bigger challenge, embarking on this new technical and human adventure.

project

The project is simple: to build a foiling boat over 7 meters long, powered solely by solar panels, ideally capable of reaching 25 knots at top speed. The boat will be steered by an onboard pilot.

UANTWERP SOLAR BOAT

Universiteit Antwerpen

4 participations

Team

The UAntwerp Solar Boat Team is made up of bachelor and master students from the Faculty of Industrial Sciences at UAntwerpen (University of Antwerp). It has been in existence for 14 years and was originally part of KdG (Karel de Grote Hogeschool). When the faculty shifted to the Faculty of Applied Engineering at UAntwerpen, the Solar Boat Team also moved and was renamed the UAntwerpen Solar Boat Team

project

The UAntwerp Solar Boat Team’s latest boat, called shark, was produced in 2019.

SUNFLARE

3 participations

Team

From Sunflare Solar Team, we want to do our part to contribute to a sustainable living environment. Therefore, with great enthusiasm and passion, we set up our own Solar Racing Boat team in 2014.

project

Because we want better and better we can’t actually buy anything. Often now we come to the conclusion that if we want it better we have to do it ourselves. Saving weight and gaining efficiency is what it’s all about in the end.

BME SOLAR BOAT

Budapest University of Technology and Economics

6 participations

Team

BME Solar Boat Team was founded in 2014 with the purpose of building the first human driven solar powered race boat in Hungary. We have been taking part in the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge since 2016.

project

The team was created with the aim of designing and building a solar-powered electric racing boat and successfully participating in the Dutch Solar Challenge in 2016 and the Solar 1 Races in Monte Carlo with this vehicle. Our aim is to raise awareness of the possibilities of renewable energy sources and to create a knowledge base and infrastructure that help new generations to participate in electric vehicle development projects.
