TEAM

The MARINEROB UPV team is led by Javier Busquets Mataix, a naval engineer and principal investigator in marine robotics at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV). Busquets heads a multidisciplinary team of young professionals from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, with backgrounds in industrial, mechanical, energy, computer, and automation engineering. This initiative represents a commitment to young talent and technology, working towards a more autonomous and sustainable maritime sector.

Project

The MARINEROB-UPV prototype represents a significant leap in sustainable energy generation technology, engineered for high performance in competitive environments. The primary propulsion system uses high-efficiency Electric Propulsion (EP) architecture. For energy storage, next-generation Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) battery systems were selected for their superior energy density and lifecycle performance. For intelligent control a proprietary, advanced control system utilising innovative algorithms is implemented to optimise energy management in real-time. Crucially, it features a new hybrid propulsion support system, providing robust operational redundancy. This configuration ensures consistent performance capabilities and goal achievement, even under challenging parameters. This prototype positions the team as a frontrunner in integrating holistic, intelligent solutions for the MEBC.
